Yesterday one of the coolest race cars we’ve ever had the pleasure of tuning came back for quick adjustment with Chris before heading out to the Porsche Club of America’s TRAC 2010 club race this weekend at Road America. The monster of a machine is John Ricci’s Kelly Moss built 1994 World Challenge Porsche 968 Turbo 25L. John with the help of his good friend Mike Knupp who ensures all the mechanical aspects of the car are up to par, races the car in PCA Club events and various track days. Road America happens to be the team’s home track so we’re looking forward to a strong showing at the event.

Here are a few more quick snaps of the machine on putting it down on our new Mustang dyno:

What a week of Speedhunting! Hello all, I’m Jody Forte. I’m a photographer and car enthusiast from the little island of Barbados. This past weekend, we hosted the second round of the Caribbean Motor Racing Championship (CMRC) at our local race circuit Bushy Par. What a weekend it was! Quite a few overseas competitors came in for this event and not just from other competing Caribbean countries like Jamaica and Guyana. We also had some racers from Europe join the party! My wife, Seema Forte, and I shoot a lot of local motorsports events here and we figured this event was a good opportunity to start to show more of whats happening here on this little island to the world. What better place than on Speedhunters! Here are some of the shots from practice sessions, qualifying and race day. Lets get right into it…

This guy had a good weekend! Steve King in his R33 Skyline had the fans in an uproar. Although he only won one race of three, he gave it his all and this car was blazing fast…

King won by a mile…

King fights his way back for the lead after getting run off the track and he literally came from the back of the pack! St. Elmo isn’t about to let him take back first place so easily!

Group 3C was a mix up of turbocharged animals, and NA beasts!

The last two races in group 3C saw a serious dog fight between local favourite St. Elmo and this Vauxhaul powered Audi from England.

A wolf in sheep’s clothing. This Audi TT is mostly a tubed frame silhouette car powered by a 2.0L Vauxhall. It was quite impressive.

He managed to take a win by days end….

This is the ex-AMS TA1 time attack car which David Summerbell bought a few years back to campaign in Jamaica. A previous CMRC champion, it’s a beast of a car. Many waited anxiously to see if it was enough to deal with the contenders from Barbados who had upset the apple cart at the last round of the CMRC in Guyana last year.

Summerbell streams down the stretch!

Who doesn’t love a good Cossie? This Escort from England was quite the sight….

One of the English competitors Adrian Beer in his Rover v8 powered MGB GT. Quite a beautiful car.

A serious stack of ITBs feed air to the 4.1L rover powering the MGB.

It really is majestic in action….

Even when the rain hit during practice, these guys were still driving all out. Some of the local old school RWD just couldn’t help but to get sideways!

This car, heck, this guy is crazy… but more on that in a bit.

This Turbo Mitsubishi Colt was among some of local cars practicing during the week.

Kenrick ‘Snapper’ Husbands in his infamous KP61, powered by a high revving 4age. He is a seasoned local driver and a regular class winner.

He found himself in a serious dog fight for pole position with another great local driver, Edward Corbin.

Young Harewood in his KP61 won every race in his class.

Jason Parkinson in his Datsun.

Jamal ‘Kirby’ Brathwaite put in a hell of a drive on race day!

The first race meet for Jones in his F20c powered ae86 unfortunately went sour when his AE86 was t-boned.

This was the man to watch: local favourite, Roger Mayers. He and his brother, Barry Mayers, have seen the top of both rally and track racing in Barbados over the years. They both only entered the CMRC for the first time last year and only missed round one in Jamaica. Roger didn’t finish last year’s round in Barbados due to an accident with another driver. But when he finally raced in Guyana the car dominated –simply dominated. It set a new record and all. It currently holds the lap record at Bushy Park and that did not change this Sunday as this car was leaps and bounds ahead of everything on the track.

After one lap, he had an uncanny amount of distance from the competition

Although only finishing one race of three he finished on the podium, quite a victory! Dare, I say, the fastest circuit car in the Caribbean!!

Barry’s “Suzuki SX-4.” Its actually a re-shelled Renault Megane Trophy silhouette car powered by a 2.5 Renault V6. An engineers wet dream!

In a acceleration battle with the TA1.

Leading the pack….

Barry would go on to win race two and three of the CMRC. What a day for M&M racing!

Mark Maloney in the Rotary rocket….

This triple Rotor Mazda Rx3 is a precise and angry beast of a track car, a local favourite.

The car is astonishing in person. It has ridiculous build quality. Its a showroom classic.

Daddy Doug Maloney’s ex BTCC Audi is a sleeping giant

Back in Barbados for first time in a while, with a new triple rotor powered full carbon Rx8 silhouette car, was Mark Vieira. Unfortunately, the car didn’t make it to race Sunday, which was a disappointment for many…

Doug Gore in the next 4WD Evo entry from Jamaica.

The tubed frame RX-7 of Guyana’s Andrew King is an amazing piece of home built engineering. This car handles very well. He fought for second place in the various rounds and bested the times of any other overseas competitor –including the TA1.

The familiar looking Evo of Guyana’s Kevin Jeffrey while fast, was not up to the speed of the cars at the front of the grid…

The CMRC race had more cars than ever before on the grid!

THIS guy…

…and this car, made our weekend…

This J’s Racing CRX, campaigned by Irish J’s Racing dealer Tuning Factory, and driven by Barry Rabbitt, was just a sight both in the pits and on the track.

Its so simple, so clean, sooooo Japanese. It just goes, stops and turns. I had high hopes for this car watching it practice and NO ONE was disappointed come race day!

He spent most of the day battling local E30 racer Justin Campbell

Round one saw this incident which put the CRX put of fight for pole position…

…and Campbell taking the win!

But with race two, the CRX had to start further back and he fought his way to second place rather quickly where the battle started again.

Rabbitt managed to nab a spectacular pass on the E30 followed by a win, which made the crowd wild with excitement!

Kevin Graham of Guyana was quite the rider in the Bike Category.

He was fast –really fast!

He took podium in all the Bike races for the day.

Another Barbadian rider.

This rider had quite the spill at qualifying.

Sammy finishing off the day with a gross display of power

…and that’s it!

The Nissan GT-R upgraded MAF sensor was designed to eliminate the driveabilty problems with big horsepower GT-R’s. As with any GT-R, once you start to reach the 800HP threshold, driveablity problems occur. AMS diagnosed these issues and quickly sorted out a solution. Thanks to our tuner Chris Black, we now have a MAF sensor capable of handling big power and big amounts of air. Kiss your P0700 codes goodbye! Stop dealing with rough driveablity problems if you are running Greddy 20G’s, big bolt-on turbos or full turbo kits. These Mass Air Flow Sensors are designed and calibrated to handle big power!

Features

Custom MAF Curve which will allow for 1200bhp
Properly scaled to retain stock like drivability with proper ECU calibration
Gets rid of pesky transmission related codes and poor drivability
Extensively tested and currently in use in several vehicles with EXCELLENT results.
Can be used with ANY turbo system available
Plugs into factory wiring harness connectors. No cutting or splicing of the vehicle harness necessary

Applications:
09 + Nissan R35 GT-R

Recommendations
While these new sensors do allow for a better and more driveable high HP GT-R a new tune will be required to achieve this. Please contact AMS for more information on how we can custom tune your Cobb Access port for these custom calibrated sensors.

Recently we installed a wideband Air Fuel Meter on our Shop GT-R from Innovate motorsports and thanks to the OT-2 we didn’t even have to mount a gauge in the car.

The OT-2 is a great on board diagnostic tool that requires just about zero installation. The nicest feature of the system is its ability to have a wideband sensor input allowing a user to have a gauge in the car without actually installing a gauge thanks to Bluetooth technology.

OT-2: : More Info Can Be Found Here.
OT-2 Wideband Bundle: More Info Can be Found Here.

Below is a review by Scott Priebe a technician at AMS

It’s rare that a product comes through these doors that really makes me say “that’s pretty darn cool”. But I must say, the Innovate OT-2 Bluetooth meter did just that and more, as I began working with it and finding all of the different features that is has to offer my enthusiasm for how awesome this device is grew. With the OT-2 you can monitor all of the sensor readings your ECU sees right from your iPhone or iPod touch. As if that wasn’t enough this device features a virtual dyno, obd2 scanner and an efficiency meter to even help you be more fuel efficient. Installation couldn’t be easier, you simply plug it into your obd2 port, download the Logworks program that is available for free from the iTunes store and connect. It’s simple as that. Also with the OT-2 you can turn your iPhone or iPod touch into a wireless wideband air fuel ratio meter. This setup fit the bill perfectly when it came time to install a wideband into our New Nissan R35 GT-R here at the shop. These vehicles have beautiful interiors and the idea of not having to mount a gauge while still being able to monitor the A/F ratio at any time sounded so perfect. I was able to install both the OT-2 and the LC-1 wideband easily and cleanly, you can’t even tell they are on the car.

North American Rally Champion Andrew “ACP” Comrie-Picard and his NOS Energy Team ACP Racing placed a strong fifth overall in the first European-style rallycross event in US history, held this past weekend at New Jersey Motorsports Park.

Despite competing throughout the heats and “A” final event with a blown headgasket and the interior heater on full blast in the over-90 degree temperatures, and while racing with a smaller 40mm intake restrictor than the 45mm-restricted winning European-spec Ford Fiesta, Comrie-Picard drove his Mitsubishi Evo rally car to the limit to be in the A final and score the result.

“I’m really happy with the weekend for a bunch of reasons,” said a happy ACP. “First off, it’s terrific proof that Rallycross is going to work as a format in the US. The thousands of fans were insanely enthusiastic, and the track administration said it was by far the most exciting event they’ve hosted since they opened the beautiful facility three years ago, and that includes Grand-Am and Superbikes.” The Rallycross track arrangement used sections of the well-engineered racetrack, then diverted onto several dirt portions built specifically for the event, including a jump, and a “joker” diversion course that each car is required to take once per heat.

“Second, we had a great result considering that the two Fords that beat us were full-spec European rallycross cars, and the two Subarus were the US factory team effort. For us as privateers, and especially considering our small turbo and restrictor, we really couldn’t have hoped for better. I drove the car right to the edge, and better yet, we all had crazy fun doing it.” Fellow competitor Dave Mirra and Comrie-Picard were seen in each others’ pits after heats talking excitedly about what had happened in each race. “This is real fun for us, honestly. In rally, you might talk to each other after a stage and try to compare notes on the course. Here, we’re like ‘dude! I totally got you where the joker merges in over the jump!’ That’s fun, and the spectators love it too” said ACP.

The team was assisted by BFGoodrich tire technology derived from successful World Rally programs, using tarmac rally tires of the type used by top BFGoodrich teams internationally. “The braking was insane,” said Comrie-Picard, “one of the other top competitors on a different tire rear-ended me in a braking zone when he locked up. I should have known he wasn’t on BFGs.”

The NOS Energy team will return at the next scheduled Rallycross event on October 2-3 at the same venue, with a new AMS motor and polycarbonate windshield. “We’ll be back with an evolved car and more game. Make no mistake,” quipped Comrie-Picard, “we’re in it to win it.”

Andrew Comrie-Picard is the current North American Rally Champion and in 2010 competed in X Games for a fifth time and won a bronze medal. He also drifts at the professional level for Dodge Motorsports and BFGoodrich in the FormulaD drift championship in a Viper. When he isn’t racing, Comrie-Picard works in film, television, and print media as an automotive expert; he hosts the television show Ultimate Car Build-off airing at on Discovery Channel. He lives in Los Angeles, California.

Rallycross is a highly-exciting, fan-oriented motorsport in which 500+ horsepower cars go head-to-head on a closed-circuit dirt and tarmac course. More info can be found at www.rally-america.com
